Offerings for Children and Youth
Church School
The HCC Church School is a fun place for children in Pre-K through 8th grade to be fully immersed in faith formation. Our elementary students explore scripture through a rotation model of activities. Each 7 week unit has us engaged in the same passage, allowing children to become familiar with the characters and themes of each story through repetition. From week to week, students interact with our scripture verse through the lens of art, drama, music, science, games, service, and spiritual practices. This model allows children with all abilities and learning styles to feel a connection to their faith through hands-on activities. All are welcome to explore and learn with us!
Students in grades 6 through 8 are invited to a weekly church school in the youth room. There, they will explore the basics of Christianity and the importance of community through games, discussions and videos.
For our younger explorers, we have a fully staffed nursery! Children three and under will be able to play with their peers during the worship service. Our teachers foster faith by introducing simple Bible characters and stories through hands-on play.
Confirmation
Students in 8th grade have the opportunity to join the confirmation class. The confirmation program meets twice a month after Sunday service from 11:30AM-12:30PM under the direction of Rev. Peter Allen and Director of Faith Formation Bri Doty.
Senior High Youth Group
The Senior High Youth Group explores a broad range of topics and activities during their meetings that seeks to make faith practical in their everyday lives. Faith formation and service to others are key elements in this group. High Schoolers meet on the 1st & 3rd Sunday from 5-6PM. In addition to our regular meetings, the SHYG is involved in collaborative youth programming across local churches and numerous service partnerships with organizations in the Greater Boston area and abroad. By routinely building relationships across differences, our teens have the opportunity to live out their faith through hands-on experiences.
Youth Service-Learning Trips
Each summer for over 30 years, members of the HCC Senior High Youth Program have spent a week in the summer traveling to serve others in need with home repairs and light construction. These service projects are carried out in various locations throughout the country, with a larger trip every four years, allowing students to experience ways of life different from their own. Our young people are often challenged to reach goals that may seem impossible to them at the outset. They are encouraged to learn collaborative and leadership skills grounded in the values of their faith. Throughout the year, with help from the congregation, the youth work hard to raise the money necessary for participation in this program.
